  • Research ED Cornwall *Speaker Spotlight* Gary Anderson - Assistant Headteacher Teaching and Learning, Insight MAT Sir Graham Balfour School, Stafford Gary is a teacher with 21 years' experience. He is currently in his third school as an Assistant Headteacher for Teaching and Learning. In every capacity as a teacher, middle leader and senior leader, Gary has been involved in Embedding Aspects of Formative Assessment (EFA). Gary says: "I genuinely see EFA as 'great teaching' that has a proven positive impact on student progress turning passive learners into independent learners. Teachers make the difference... students taught by the most effective teacher will learn in six months what those taught by the average teacher learn in a year (Hanushek & Rivkin, 2006). Embedding aspects of Formative Assessment into your teaching raises teacher effectiveness. In my workshop I will discuss why it has been one the most powerful and transformative T&L strategy that I have been part of. How it has raised standards in lessons for all students regardless of their prior attainment, gender, socio-economic status or SEND need. What impactful formative assessment strategies were used and how to ensure they are carried out with fidelity."
