CELT welcomes diversity expert to inspire inclusive practices

Cornwall Education Learning Trust was delighted to host renowned diversity expert, Bennie Kara, at Penrice Academy for an engaging and insightful session with staff. Pastoral teams from across the Trust gathered to hear Bennie’s expertise on embedding diversity within the curriculum, gaining valuable insights to foster inclusion and representation in education.

Bennie Kara, a prominent advocate for diversity in education, shared real-life experiences and inspiring examples to help staff understand how to create a more inclusive learning environment for all students. The event reflects the Trust’s commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion across its academies.

During her talk, Bennie discussed unconscious bias and how it is shaped by our experiences, culture, and social conditioning. It can influence decisions and interactions in subtle but impactful ways. She also illustrated how the media has a huge influence.

Trust Safeguarding Lead, Amy Daniels said "Recognising and addressing unconscious bias is essential in promoting diversity, to create more inclusive environments. Embracing diversity means valuing different perspectives, experiences, and identities, which not only fosters equity but also enhances creativity, innovation, and collaboration. We were thrilled to welcome Bennie Kara to Cornwall to share her expertise with us."
