CELT and Marjon Begin Exciting New Partnership

Cornwall Education Learning Trust has formed an exciting new partnership with Marjon University Cornwall  and Plymouth Marjon University to offer teacher training and accredited courses in Cornwall.  The new partnership will address regional education needs to make teacher education more accessible to all.

It's anticipated that this partnership will create significant developments to boost undergraduate and postgraduate Education opportunities in the County.

This partnership demonstrates a commitment to offer relevant and much-needed undergraduate and postgraduate Education courses in Cornwall. Both CELT, a well-regarded 16-school Multi Academy Trust (MAT) in Cornwall, and Marjon, a long-established quality provider of University Education courses, are delighted to be working together to support the training of more qualified teachers and exceptional postgraduate level professional development for school leaders.

A cornerstone of this collaboration is initial teacher training (ITT), which will provide pathways for prospective Primary and Secondary school teachers in Cornwall. Successful applicants will benefit from Marjon Teacher Education Partnership's extensive experience spanning over 180 years, preparing them as teachers for Cornwall to excel and lead. Marjon and CELT’s ITT draw on expertise from across CELT’s 16 academies in Cornwall for placements and mentor expertise. This is an exciting new development that will benefit Cornwall’s schools, their students and their communities.

Marjon and CELT are excited to offer a Level 5 Foundation Degree in Teaching and Learning from a venue in Bodmin. This degree offers a stepping stone into teaching, or the Education professions more broadly, and will be studied part-time alongside employment.

Nurturing talent and providing professional development opportunities for all our employees is a key focus of CELT; with pupil learning at the centre of everything we do, with a focus on making teaching in our academies as good as it can be. Marjon is therefore delighted to support CELT teachers and leaders through short master’s degree level courses, in areas such as research informed practice and future leadership.

This partnership between Marjon and CELT will enhance Higher Education participation and support teacher recruitment and retention. The new programmes and courses that will be offered in Cornwall will provide meaningful training and professional development and learning, improving access to high quality teachers and school leadership in Cornwall, for Cornwall.

"We are thrilled to be working in partnership with CELT to support and serve educational needs in Cornwall," said Giles Freathy, Joint Partnership Lead for Marjon Teacher Education Partnership. "By collaborating closely with schools and stakeholders, we aim to foster inclusive education that empowers individuals and communities."

Professor Tanya Ovenden-Hope, Dean of Marjon University Cornwall commented “CELT CEO, Lisa Mannall, has been an active member of the Marjon University Cornwall Professional Advisory Group and has seen the contribution our postgraduate programmes have made to enhancing teacher and school leaders practice in Cornwall. Being able to work with CELT and offer high quality foundation degrees, teacher training and master’s level courses from ‘cradle to career’ is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to Cornwall”.

“We are excited to see progress in Cornwall in bridging educational divides, opening doors for more individuals to pursue careers in teaching. At CELT, we are steadfast in our commitment to serving as a beacon of solution for the communities that we serve”, Hayley Bissenden, Trust ECT Lead.

Marjon Teacher Education Partnership invites stakeholders, including local schools, community organisations, and educational leaders, to engage in discussions and explore partnership opportunities. Marjon University Cornwall can develop bespoke postgraduate programmes for schools and colleges for delivery at our campus in Truro, or across Cornwall.
